My Mepilex Story
As a nurse, I encountered wound care products that caused trauma upon removal, highlighting the importance of selecting appropriate dressings. Transitioning to Tissue Viability in 2017, we reviewed our formulary and found some products were not effective for absorbency or cost efficient – "they quickly fell off ".
We examined the Mepilex® range, particularly for cost and clinical effectiveness, implementing the use of the Mepilex® Border Comfort and Lite range across our trust. Safetac® technology works extremely well at adhering to skin but prevents skin stripping and trauma on removal, especially for elderly skin, which is the majority of our client base, so we need to cater for fragile and friable skin.
Patients frequently comment on the comfort of wearing and removing dressings. Additionally, I've urged staff to decrease dressing change frequency and utilise the exudate progress monitor, to guide changes enhancing cost-effectiveness within our trust.
